Free Throws Give UNLV Women Win Over SDSU
The Nevada-Las Vegas women’s basketball team, leading 42-39 at the half, sank 22 of 28 free throws in the second half to defeat San Diego State, 102-75, in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. game in Las Vegas.
The Aztecs (3-2, 11-10) trailed by three with 7:26 to play, but the Rebels (5-2, 12-8) made six consecutive free throws and a field goal to put the game away, 76-65, with 6:30 left.
UNLV made 62% of its field-goal attempts to SDSU’s 47%. The Aztecs made 7 of 16 free throws; the Rebels hit 26 of 34.
UNLV’s Misty Thomas made 11 of 16 shots from the field and 14 of 15 free throws for a game-high 36 points. Donya Monroe had 19 and Zena Harris had 16 for UNLV.
Jessica Haynes had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and Shelda Arceneaux, who made 10 of 14 field goal attempts, had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Aztecs.
SDSU plays at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday for its sixth game in 10 days.
