R.H. Estates : Quarry Land Study Stalls

The City Council deferred a request from the Planning Commission to solicit bids for selection of a geotechnical consultant to study landfill issues at Chandler Quarry.

The council asked that the Planning Commission first consider the use to which the quarry area will be put. A proposal to develop the area for residential use has been under discussion since last spring, but specific plans have not been submitted.

The consultant would determined the rate at which the quarry will fill through current dumping operations and whether the city can legally require that the fill be compacted so structures can be built on it.

Planning Director Stephen Emslie estimated the cost to the city of a consultant to be no more than $5,000.
