Deukmejian Fills 3 Posts on State Board of Education

SACRAMENTO — Gov. George Deukmejian on Wednesday appointed educators Armen Sarafian of Glendora and Francis Laufenberg of Orange and reappointed Agnes I. Chan of San Francisco to the state Board of Education.
Sarafian, 65, is president of the University of La Verne and Laufenberg, 64, is superintendent of the Long Beach Unified School District. Chan, 68, has been a member since 1983 and works for the Red Cross in San Francisco.
Each is a Republican and is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
