PCAA Roundup : New Mexico State Slump Continues as Pacific Wins
Domingo Rosario and substitute guard Christian Gray both were near-perfect from the field Saturday night for the University of the Pacific, which scored an 88-74 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory over New Mexico State in Stockton.
The Aggies, tied for second with UC Irvine, fell to 9-5 in the PCAA and 15-8 overall. After an 8-1 conference start, New Mexico State has lost four of five.
Pacific’s point total was its season high, as the Tigers made 61% (31 of 51) of their field-goal attempts, also a season best. Rosario had a 7-for-8 night from the floor and scored 19 points, and Gray was 6 of 7 and scored 14 points in 18 minutes.
The Tigers were ahead, 35-25, at halftime, and their lead reached 28 midway through the second half. The triumph improved Pacific’s conference record to 6-8 and its overall mark to 13-13.
Kenny Travis led the Aggies with 22 points and Virgil Harris added 20.
Fresno State 70, Cal State Long Beach 59--Mike Mitchell and Brian Salone scored 15 points apiece to lead the Bulldogs (8-8, 15-11) past the 49ers (2-12, 6-19) at Fresno.
The Bulldogs took control of the game in the first half, leading by as many as 18 points, and taking a 40-26 halftime lead. Mitchell scored 10 of his points in the first half and teammate Marvin Carter scored 11.
Long Beach’s Andre Purry scored a game-high 21 points.
