Fire Causes $35,000 Damage: A policeman on patrol discovered flames shooting through the roof of a boarded-up house on South Maple Street about 1 a.m. Thursday morning. Eighteen firefighters put out the fire in about 15 minutes, Battalion Chief Richard Keller said. Damage was estimated at $30,000 to the house and $5,000 to the furniture inside. The home was unoccupied and there were no injuries. The fire’s cause was not known, Keller said, but the department’s arson bureau was investigating.
