Iacocca, Hodel and Conrad
Say it isn’t so, Conrad. Say you got caught up with today’s vulgar humor seen in movies and on TV. Admit to your readers and fans that you made a mistake in judgment in regard to your Iacocca cartoon. I can accept an error in judgment, but I find it hard to believe that you would do it again if you had the choice.
Am I making too much out of this vulgarity? I try to be flexible in understanding changes in morals and mores in society. Still, I didn’t want my own two teen-agers to ask me for a political cartoon to share in history that Valentine’s Day. I was embarrassed and angry that someone with his talent and incisive pen could resort to that vulgarity. Wouldn’t a single tear running down the Statue of Liberty’s face have been more effective than a middle finger extended in open defiance?
