Garden Grove : Strawberry Festival Parade to Be Televised
The Garden Grove Strawberry Festival parade will be televised live on commercial television for the first time in its 28-year history, Assistant City Manager Mike Fenderson said.
The City Council voted last week to appropriate $155,000 toward production and televising costs, he said. The broadcast on KHJ-Channel 9 is to feature a dozen 30-second commercials--vignettes about life in the city.
The parade, part of the four-day festival that draws more than 300,000 people each year, has been televised on cable television the last two years, but officials want to gain a larger viewing audience.
City officials said they hope the event will generate good publicity about the city. The annual parade is scheduled for May 24.
