Driver Sought in Crash That Killed Child
The California Highway Patrol is seeking information concerning a driver suspected of being responsible for an accident that killed a 4-year-old boy.
Christopher Ibanez of San Diego was killed when his mother’s car overturned while trying to avoid a car that had run a red light at South Bay Freeway and Worthington Street at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, CHP Officer Gilbert Furby said.
Witnesses said the other car was a yellow Maverick or Pinto, Furby said.
Claire Ibanez’s car overturned when it hit a traffic island as she swerved to avoid the other car. Her son was wearing a seat belt but was sitting on the side of the car that was crushed in the accident.
The driver suspected of causing the accident failed to stop.
The Highway Patrol urges anyone with information about the accident or the yellow car to come forward.
