Two newborn babies went home from Marin General Hospital with the wrong parents, hospital officials confirmed, in a mix-up realized when one of the mothers noticed “her” baby’s hospital identification tag carried a different last name. “There was a mistake made,” hospital spokeswoman Nancy Nickel said, calling it a “human error” and the first such incident in 47,000 births at the hospital. Two female babies, of apparently similar faces, complexion and hair color, had been born several hours apart to Linda and Steve Boggeri of Rohnert Park and to Ilse and Andre Amzallag of Sausalito. Linda Boggeri, while giving “her” daughter a bath at home, glanced at the hospital wrist identification band. It said “Amzallag.” “We’re trying to find out exactly what happened and make sure it doesn’t happen again,” Nickel said, noting that the couples quickly exchanged babies. “We’re just happy that it was caught and everybody’s fine.”
