S.D. Symphony Nearly Bankrupt
SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Symphony will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization if it cannot raise $1 million to pay accumulated debts by March 10, the symphony president said today.
“There’s no way we can continue meeting our obligations past March 10 unless . . . the community or an individual within the community can come up with $1 million to match the existing $1 million that’s been offered,” M. B. Merryman said at a news conference. As of today, the symphony has stopped paying its bills, including salaries to its 90 musicians and 28 operations personnel, he said.
