A 35-year-old Sunland woman has been awarded a commendatory citation from the Los Angeles Police Department for coming to the rescue of a woman who was being beaten by a man on a Tujunga street in November.

The honored woman, Rosemarie Pegueros-Lev, was driving along Foothill Boulevard about 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 when she saw the woman being beaten. Pegueros-Lev stopped her car and began sounding the horn, which distracted the man and allowed his victim to climb into Pegueros-Lev’s car, Los Angeles Police Officer Ray Bentley said.

Pegueros-Lev called police, who arrested the man a short time later.

Bentley said Pegueros-Lev took the woman and her five children to her own home to spend the night after discovering that the woman was homeless. The next morning, she arranged for the family to stay at a home for battered women, Bentley said.
