Huntington Beach : County Will Dredge Sediment From Harbor

The county has agreed to dredge about 135,000 cubic yards of sediment from Huntington Harbour in a project designed to clear the waterway for recreational boating.

The entire project will cost about $1.6 million, with Huntington Beach reimbursing the county for about two-thirds of the cost because about that much of the area to be dredged lies within the city.

Most of the dredging of shoals that have built up will be in the harbor’s main channel, which stretches from Anaheim Bay to the harbor’s southeast end at Warner Avenue. About 5,000 cubic feet will be scooped out of Christiana Bay, a small harbor inlet.

An Irvine firm is preparing plans for the work and securing the necessary permits before dredging can begin. The project is expected to start in summer, 1987, and last about three years.
