Chip makers saw their orders and shipments rise.

The Semiconductor Industry Assn., a trade group based in San Jose, said its book-to-bill ratio increased to 1.1 in February, the second consecutive month in which orders, or bookings, have exceeded billings. Average monthly orders rose 9.3% to $667.5 million while average shipments were up 10.5% to $603.6 million. Continuing increases in the measure signal an end to the 16-month slump in the industry, the SIA said.
