Reagan and Press

Who is going to fault President Reagan for his muttered name-calling aimed at the press (Times, March 1)?

Would you believe there are plenty of “fed-up” U.S. citizens who do more than mutter “S.O.B.s” at the press these days (especially while watching TV newscasts)? It’s more like a shout! Many in the Fourth Estate, I am convinced, fancy themselves to be gods of absolute truth--infallible, if you will, or alpha and omega.

I would imagine that in the time of Grover Cleveland’s terms of office the members of the press numbered considerably fewer than the hordes of journalists today. Therefore, President Cleveland’s term, “dirty gang,” was probably strong enough language in that day and age.
