NHL Roundup : Coffey Ties Scoring Mark in Oiler Win

Paul Coffey had eight points, including six assists, at Edmonton Friday night to tie an NHL record for points by a defenseman as the Oilers beat the Detroit Red Wings, 12-3.

Tom Bladon of Philadelphia set the record Dec. 11, 1977.

Glenn Anderson had three goals and now has 51, while Jari Kurri scored two to reach 59 and Wayne Gretzky scored his 49th.

Coffey has 43 goals and needs one more to set a record for a defenseman.

Quebec 6, Calgary 2--Newcomer Risto Siltanen and veteran Michel Goulet scored power-play goals less than a minute apart in the second period at Quebec to lead the Nordiques past the Flames.

The Flames held a 2-1 lead when Joel Otto was hit with a double minor for tripping and complaining about the original call. Siltanen, acquired last week in a trade with Hartford, tied the score at 4:04. Goulet fired from the slot at 5:01 for his 47th goal and a 3-2 lead.

From then on the Flames offered only token opposition as the Nordiques climbed to within one point of Montreal in the tight Adams Division race.
