La Habra : Power Out for Seconds After Car Strikes Pole
- Share via
Residents living near Lambert Road between Harbor Boulevard and Euclid Street experienced a momentary power outage early Sunday, police said, after a power pole on Lambert was struck by a car driven.
Gerardo Mestas, 19, of La Habra was driving west on Lambert near Cypress Street at 5:30 a.m. when he lost control of his car and struck the 66,000-volt transformer pole, Police Sgt. Perry Miller said. Mestas was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to Ken Bellis, a spokesman for Southern California Edison Co., about 3,600 customers were without power for a few seconds. After the pole was hit, Bellis said, the two circuits were rerouted and power was restored.
Lambert Road was blocked off between Harbor and Euclid to allow work crews to repair the pole, which required power to be shut off again for about 100 customers for one to two hours, Bellis said.
Mestas and passenger Eric Gonzales, 22, also of La Habra, were taken to La Habra Community Hospital and released after treatment of minor injuries.
