A Los Angeles nurse who claims she should have won $3 million in the California Lottery’s Grand Prize Big Spin when she spun the wheel and the ball landed in the big money slot for three seconds before bouncing out, sued the state Lottery Commission for that amount Tuesday. In her Los Angeles Superior Court suit, Doris Barnett, 52, said it was announced and broadcast that she was a $3-million winner when the ball fell into the slot after the wheel came to rest during the televised game last Dec. 30. Then, “for some unknown reason,” she said, the ball fell out of the slot and came to rest in a $10,000 slot. Game rules state that the ball must stay in place at least five seconds, according to a commission spokeswoman.
