Alvin B. Phillips, one of the founders of Western Digital in Irvine, has opened an Irvine consulting firm specializing in high-tech business marketing and turnaround strategies.

Phillips, who has also worked for Sylvania, Rockwell International and American Telecommunications, left Western Digital in the mid-1970s when the company was losing money and having problems with its major financial backer.
