The Lakers, who will play the Seattle SuperSonics at the Coliseum here tonight, signed 7-2 center Petur Gudmundsson to a second 10-day contract Friday.

Gudmundsson, whose first contract had expired at midnight, can only be signed to another Laker contract for the rest of the season when his new 10-day deal runs out.

Another center, Mitch Kupchak, took a step toward rejoining the active roster from the injured list Friday, participating in his first full workout since he had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee March 5.

If the Lakers want to keep Gudmundsson and also add Kupchak to the playoff roster, they will have to drop another player.

The Lakers have won 13 of their last 14 games and are 3-1 against the SuperSonics this season. Seattle just made a minor roster move, putting George Johnson on the injured list and activating David Pope.
