On Aid to the Contras in Nicaragua
On the first day of spring, our hearts were gladdened to learn that the contra bill was defeated by the House.
The defeat of the contra aid proposal shows that not everyone in the nation’s legislature has abandoned moral principles. It is good to know that there are some Democrats, and even some Republicans, who can withstand great pressure when they know something is terribly wrong and will have dire consequences.
I know the battle is not over, but this victory is encouraging. There have been enough atrocities committed.
Despite the Reagan Administration’s attempt to mislead us, a majority of the House and of the country know that funding murders and rapists is evil. Poor, tiny and struggling Nicaragua presents no threats to us whatsoever. Let us live in peace with all of Latin America.
