The fight against three proposed new freeways in Orange County is going to be tougher, a longtime freeway opponent vowed last week.
Tom Rogers, a San Juan Capistrano rancher and former county Republican chairman, said he would seek anti-freeway ballot initiatives in Irvine, Yorba Linda, Anaheim, Santa Ana, San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente, Tustin, Orange, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach. Those are the communities that would have portions of the proposed Eastern, Foothill and San Joaquin Hills transportation corridors, or freeways.
Rogers said he was planning the initiative barrage after being encouraged by a state Supreme Court decision last week. That decision reversed lower courts and said that Irvine residents should be granted a hearing on their attempt to force a public vote on the freeway issue.
