Alicante Hotel Opens Today in Garden Grove
The $55-million Alicante Princess, a Princess Cruises Hotel and part of a $300-million hotel-office complex under way in Garden Grove, opens today, with a grand-opening celebration planned in early May.
Designed by Canadian-based WZMH Group Inc., the 17-story, 400-room hotel has a 160-foot-high atrium, believed to be the largest in the western United States. Princess Cruises Resorts & Hotels, a division of Princess Cruises, will operate the hotel, which got its name from the popular Mediterranean resort, Alicante, Spain. The parent company is the 148-year-old Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co. of London.
The hotel is at Harbor Boulevard and Chapman Avenue, on part of a 40-acre site that will eventual house a 10-story, 228,000-square-foot office building and retail space. Owner and developer of the project is Newport Beach-based Beauchamp Enterprises, headed by Dr. Robert F. Beauchamp, widely known through the dental advertising he did as far back as the 1940s and ‘50s.
