Canyons’ Halcovich Wins 9th Straight
College of the Canyons collected 11 extra-base hits, and Frank Halcovich pitched his ninth straight win as the Cougars beat West Los Angeles, 8-4, Saturday at West L.A.
Bob Clark of Canyons homered and doubled, and catcher Pete Kuld doubled twice, singled and drove in two runs. Victor Sotelo had two doubles and two runs batted in off losing pitcher David Dawson.
Alex Vasquez was 3 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI for Canyons, and first baseman Scott Drury added a triple.
The Cougars (10-1, 25-4) are ranked No. 1 in the Southland Poll by sports information directors and lead the Mountain Valley Conference by 1 1/2 games over Valley. West L.A. is 6-6, 13-13. Against West L.A. this season, Canyons is 4-0.
