Nearly 150 schools and several of the nation’s top performers will compete in the 28th annual Mt. San Antonio Relays, which begin today at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut at 2:45 p.m. and resume Saturday morning at 8:30.
The boys’ 1,500-meter run is one of the featured races, with brothers Eric and Mark Mastalir of Carmichael Jesuit near Sacramento go against Jim Zimmer of Simi Valley and Raul Serratos of Moreno Valley. Eric (8:51.64) and Mark (8:55.10) have the country’s top two times of 1986 in the two-mile, and Zimmer and Serratos have run under 4:15 for 1,600 meters.
Both discus fields will have national leaders. Kamy Keshmiri of Reno has thrown 199 feet 2 inches in boys’ competition and Lori Parker of Ramona has thrown 162-0 in girls’ competition.
