La Mesa
A La Mesa career school was sued Friday by the district attorney’s office for allegedly misleading its customers into believing they would have a greater chance of being hired by the U.S. Postal Service after taking its classes.
Federal Careers Institute, 7373 University Ave., and its owners, Lorraine and Donald Gillette, were named as co-defendants in the San Diego Superior Court suit seeking $2,500 for each violation of the Business and Professions Code.
The firm offers classes that prepare students for the U.S. Postal Service Civil Service examination. The suit charges that the firm has made misleading representations that its students are given preferential treatment in hiring by the post office.
A temporary restraining order is being sought against the firm, and a court date has been set for May 12.
