The Region : 138 Aliens Apprehended
More than 138 people, all believed to be in the U.S. illegally from Mexico, were apprehended at a San Diego house by Border Patrol agents, said Ed Pyeatt, a spokesman for the Border Patrol. Acting on a tip from San Diego police, agents swooped down on the three-bedroom house on the 2100 block of National Avenue in the Logan Heights district in southern San Diego, he said. The group, 134 men and 4 women, had been crammed into the small house for at least eight hours. Some of the aliens told agents that they had paid smugglers about $275 to be taken to Los Angeles. No smuggling suspects were arrested in the raid, Pyeatt said. All the aliens voluntarily returned to Mexico, he said.
