Cal State L. B.’s Gaynor Picked by Bengals in Draft
Cal State Long Beach quarterback Doug Gaynor, who passed for a school-record 3,559 yards and 19 touchdowns last season, was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round of Tuesday’s National Football League draft. He was the 99th player chosen.
“I think it’s tremendous for Doug,” said CSULB Coach Mike Sheppard. “It’s an ideal situation. If there were two offenses I could have chosen for him to be a part of, my first choice would have been the (San Diego) Chargers and my second would have been the Bengals.”
Cincinnati Coach Sam Wyche said Gaynor will have “no pressure to play early. We’re going to spend quality time with him. We think he’s a player who can make it in this league.”
