Ousted Head of L.A. Grand Jury Files Rights Suit
Sam Cordova, who was replaced as foreman of the Los Angeles County Grand Jury last October, filed a civil rights suit on Friday against the county and eight grand jurors alleging that they conspired against him by making “false, slanderous and malicious statements” about him to the judge who supervises the panel.
Superior Court Judge Robert Devich asked Cordova to resign as foreman, after some jurors complained that the 56-year-old Sylmar businessman had abused his authority.
Cordova filed the suit in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking general damages of $100,000 and punitive damages of $1 million. Also named as a defendant was the jury’s legal adviser, a deputy district attorney.
