The Tragedy at Central Library
The Central Library fire is a horrible tragedy that could have been averted had the Los Angeles Conservancy been less intransigent, had the mayor and City Council taken action years ago, had the business community taken an interest, had The Times cared more, had the leaders of the community recognized the problems.
If only the warnings of the librarians had been heeded the irreplaceable collection and our tax dollars would have been saved.
