A Lake Hughes woman and a Calabasas man were killed and three other people were injured early Saturday morning in a five-car collision on the Golden State Freeway near Castaic, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Barbara Perrey, 20, and Edward R. Ching, 21, died when the Honda in which they were riding struck a guardrail two miles north of Templin Highway and crashed into the rear of a Buick that had been abandoned in the left-hand emergency lane, CHP Officer Janet Engler said.

Two people who stopped to help the crash victims were also injured. Their vehicle was struck by a car driven by Antonio G. Garcia, who had swerved to miss the Honda, which now was blocking two lanes of the freeway, Engler said.

Then a Chevrolet carrying two people hit Garcia’s Ford and the Honda, Engler said. One person in the Chevrolet was injured.

Garcia was admitted to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Newhall with moderate injuries. The other victims were treated and released from local hospitals.
