The Region : Pair to Be Tried in Deliveryman’s Death
There is enough evidence to try Mitchell C. Sims, 25, and Ruby C. Padgett, 20, for slaying a Glendale pizza deliveryman and robbing the restaurant where he worked, Glendale Municipal Judge J. D. Smith ruled after a four-day preliminary hearing. Smith also upheld Deputy Dist. Atty. Terry Green’s request for a declaration of special circumstances, which could mean a death penalty for the South Carolina pair. John S. Harrington, 25, was killed when he delivered a pizza to a Glendale motel last Dec. 9. Domino’s, for which Harrington worked, was robbed of $2,000 the same night. The defendants, who will be arraigned in Superior Court on May 20, also face charges in South Carolina of murdering two Domino’s employees there.
