Israeli pianist Michal Tal, 24, has won the 1986 Dallas Morning News G. B. Dealey Award. Tal receives $7,500 in cash and a performance with the Dallas Symphony; she will also be given a bronze medallion commemorating George Bannerman Dealey, late publisher of the Morning News, who founded the competition in 1931.

Third prize of $1,500 went to Eduardus Halim, another 24-year old pianist, from Bandung, Indonesia. Both Tal and Halim now live in New York, where they are students at the Juilliard School, working toward advanced degrees.

No second prize was awarded. The finals were held recently in Dallas.
