Special master Kingman Brewster has terminated forward Albert King’s contract with the New Jersey Nets, again making King a free agent.

The Nets will have the right of first refusal.

Brewster’s ruling followed an earlier decision by U.S. District Judge Robert Carter that the New York Knicks’ offer sheet to King last year was in violation of the NBA salary cap.

King became a free agent after the 1984-85 season and signed an offer sheet with the Knicks on Oct. 23, 1985, that was later matched by the Nets. Brewster ruled that the appropriate salary for King for the 1985-86 season was $660,000 and ordered him to repay to the Nets $375,000, the amount he received in excess of that figure.
