The Region : Store Clerk Kills 2 Would-Be Robbers

A convenience store clerk shot and killed two men who attempted to rob a co-worker at gunpoint, police reported. Jimmie Pelts, 33, was shot three times by the Hogan’s AM-PM Mini Mart clerk who managed to sneak up on Pelts as he held a sawed-off shotgun on another employee at the store at 9922 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles Police Detective Dennis Payne said. Pelts’s alleged accomplice, Jimmie Turner, 26, charged the armed clerk and was shot twice in the chest, according to Payne. Police declined to release the name of the clerk, who was not charged. Payne said the district attorney’s office would review the case.
