College Gymnasts to Compete in Meet at UCLA
More than 100 competitors from 10 states will compete in the West Regional college gymnastics tournament Saturday and Sunday at the John Wooden Center on the UCLA campus.
Compulsory exercises will begin Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and the optional finals will open Sunday’s program at 2 p.m.
UCLA’s Brian Ginsberg and Curtis Holdsworth and Mexican Olympian Tony Pineda are scheduled to compete, with Dennis Hayden and John Sweeney of Arizona State, Mike Matzek of Stanford and Jon Omori of California also expected to challenge for the all-around title.
The top 72 scorers from the five regions qualify for the U.S. Gymnastics Federation meet June 19-22 at Indianapolis.
