ON THE TOWN: According to the ads, the Byrds are playing the Palomino Club on Monday night. But if you’re expecting Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, David Crosby or even Michael Clarke, don’t get your hopes up. The group being billed as the Byrds is made up of ex-Byrds vocalist Gene Clark and a backup group. A spokesman for Hillman and McGuinn said the duo--who own the rights to the band’s name--are “extremely unhappy” about the way the date has been billed. “They feel its very unethical and misleading to the public. Gene could easily call himself a former Byrd, but it’s wrong to play under the band’s name.” . . . Meanwhile, the Anti-Club custody battle has been settled, at least temporarily, thanks to a ruling in Los Angeles Superior Court that allows both competing factions to use the club name until a full trial is scheduled. Anti-Club owner Helen Guttman will put on shows at the old location while the club bookers will host New Anti-Club shows at various hot spots around town.
