UCLA Starts Off With Hawaii in West Regional
Pacific 10 Southern Division champion UCLA (39-21) meets Hawaii (41-22), runner-up in the Western Athletic Conference, Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the opening round of the NCAA West Regional at UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium.
In the 11 a.m. opener of the four-team, double-elimination tournament, Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. champion UC Santa Barbara (43-17) plays Loyola Marymount (45-12), co-champion of the West Coast Athletic Conference.
Pepperdine (35-19), received an at-large berth in the Central Regional at Austin, Tex. The Waves, who tied Loyola for the WCAC title, will play Pan American (41-17) Thursday afternoon.
