AT&T; Chief Named

NEW YORK — James Olson, who dug out manholes in his first job at American Telephone & Telegraph Co., was named today to become chairman and chief executive of the world’s biggest communications company. Olson, 60, AT&T;’s president and chief operating officer, will move into the top job Sept. 1, after Charles Brown takes mandatory retirement at age 65, the board of directors voted.
