Twenty-six people were hurt, none seriously, when two Rapid Transit District buses collided Friday in Studio City, Fire Department officials said.

The collision, which occurred at 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Ventura Boulevard and Carpenter Avenue, was the third accident this month involving mass transit vehicles.

Virtually all the passengers injured Friday complained of neck and back pains and were examined by a triage team flown by helicopter from UCLA Medical Center.

Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said 11 passengers were taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center and St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. None of them was admitted.

RTD spokesman Jim Smart said the accident apparently occurred when one of the bus drivers swerved to avoid a car and crashed into the rear of another bus that had stopped at the intersection. The rear window of the bus that was struck from behind was shattered in the collision, as was the windshield of the second bus.

Smart said both drivers will be tested for drug and alcohol consumption.
