SOUTHERN SECTION BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS : Roundup : Artesia Is 9-4 Winner Over Saugus
The Saugus High School baseball team kicked the ball all over Dodger Stadium Saturday afternoon in the Southern Section 2-A championship game, committing eight errors and dropping a 9-4 decision to Artesia, giving the Pioneers their first Section baseball title.
While Saugus (20-8) committed at least one error in every inning except the fifth, it was charged with only two unearned runs. After Saugus took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, the Pioneers came back to get three runs and four hits off Dennis Moran, the Centurions’ No. 1 starter.
Artesia broke the tie in the second by scoring four times on one hit, providing Gunnar Seedborg (9-3) with a 7-3 lead and all the offense he would need.
