Lakers Deal McGee to Hawks for Rights to 2 Draft Choices

The Los Angeles Lakers traded veteran guard Mike McGee and the rights to first-round draft choice Ken Barlow of Notre Dame to Atlanta today for rights to Hawk’s draft choices Billy Thompson of Louisville and Ron Kellogg of Kansas.

McGee averaged 8.3 points per game for the Lakers last season. The 6-10 Barlow was the 23rd pick in the first round of the draft after scoring 14.9 points a game as a senior for the Fighting Irish.

Thompson helped Louisville win the national championship in 1986, scoring 14.9 points per game. He was the 19th pick by the Hawks in the first round. Kellogg, a 6-5 forward for the Jayhawks, was Atlanta’s second-round pick and the 42nd overall. Kellogg, all-Big Eight the last two seasons, averaged 15.9 points as a senior.
