Tyson Stretches Record to 23-0 With a First-Round Knockout
Unbeaten heavyweight Mike Tyson, the World Boxing Council’s No. 2-ranked contender, knocked out an overmatched William Hosea at 2:03 of the first round Saturday night to extend his record to 23-0, including 21 knockouts.
Tyson, 19, of Catskill, N.Y., swarmed over Hosea and landed some hard shots to the body. Hosea, 29, of Bloomington, Ill., landed a hard left hook to Tyson’s head, but Tyson never blinked and resumed the body attack until Hosea dropped to his knees.
It looked as if Hosea was regrouping, but he failed to make referee Harry Papacharlambous’ count and the fight ended to boos from the crowd of about 1,200.
It was the first time that Hosea (17-4) has been knocked out. For Tyson, it was his 14th first-round knockout.
