Hells Angels president Douglas Chester (Dutch) Schultz, 32, was sentenced to five years in prison Monday for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamines and using a telephone to facilitate a drug transaction.

The five-year sentence stems from an 18-count indictment last October against Schultz and two other men, Thomas Longnecker, 38, and Robert Ladley, 45, who were charged with methamphetamine sales out of the Schultz’s Rich Man, Poor Man Limousine Service.

Defense attorney Michael Pancer asked U.S. District Judge Judith N. Keep for a sentence of 2 1/2 years, citing Schultz’s changed attitude since the early 1970s.

“This man shows as much promise as anyone I’ve ever represented,” Pancer said.

However, Assistant U.S. Atty. Michael Lasater disagreed with Pancer’s evaluation of Schultz’s character.

He also noted that law enforcement officers found scales, bowls, cutting material and other drug paraphernalia in Schultz’s home.

Lasater asked the judge to sentence Schultz to 10 years in prison.
