Bill Hughes has resigned as basketball coach at Reseda High to accept a teaching position at Carver Jr. High in South Central Los Angeles.

Hughes, 33, coached Reseda from 1980-84 and again last season. The Regents won City 3-A championships in 1983 and ’84 before Hughes left Reseda to become coach at Pierce College. After an 8-22 season there, he accepted a job at Loara High in Anaheim but resigned less than two months later before the start of the school year.

He returned to Reseda last season and went 5-16, winless in all 12 Valley 4-A League games.

Hughes cited “philosophical differences” as part of the reason for leaving Reseda but said he mainly wanted to spend more time with his family. He said he hopes to coach basketball in the future, but not this school year.
