Let the Goodwill Games begin.

KTLA Channel 5 and entrepreneur Ted Turner’s WTBS cable station will bring viewers two weeks of the Olympics-style competition starting today in Moscow.

Coverage of the opening ceremonies and events, with 3,500 athletes from 50 nations participating, will be telecast today on Channel 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The action resumes tonight on Channel 5 from 7 to 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Meanwhile, WTBS will carry today’s activity from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m.

On Sunday, Channel 5 will show a wide range of events, including track and field, basketball and swimming, 9 a.m.-noon, 3-6 p.m., 7-10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. The WTBS schedule on Sunday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-9 p.m.

The games, which will be simulcast in Spanish on Channel 5, continue through July 20. WTBS is sponsoring the games with the Soviet Union.

It’s also a big weekend for tennis fans. NBC cameras will be courtside for the women’s finals at Wimbledon beginning today at 8 a.m. (4)(36)(39), with the men’s finals starting Sunday at 8 a.m.

Later today, KNBC takes a look at “Wimbledon: Past, Present and Future,” 6:30 p.m. (4).
