The Walt Disney Co., the NBC television network and the creators of the comedy series “Golden Girls” were named in a $5-million copyright infringement suit filed Thursday in federal court claiming the show is based on a script rejected by NBC in 1980.

Nancy Bretzfield said in her suit that her copyrighted script, “Getting Along,” was returned by NBC executives in July 1980 as inappropriate. She seeks an injunction to halt the show’s broadcast and force the defendants to surrender all tapes of existing episodes, plus $5 million in damages.

The suit said “Golden Girls” and “Getting Along” both “revolve around several vibrant, elderly women who due to financial pressures and a sense of togetherness have opted to live together.”
