Everyone’s a Critic, or a Fan, of Soccer

My sincere congratulations for your coverage of the World Cup soccer tournament. As a typical American growing up in the 50s and 60s playing baseball, basketball and football, I thought soccer was a foreign sport until my son started playing several years ago. Next thing I know, I’m coaching and refereeing a game unknown to me as a child.

Your paper showed a lot of courage with the bold pictures and articles on the first page of the sports section. Grahame L. Jones did a great job covering the tournament.

The impact of this reporting on the young athletes in our country is very important to developing the interest and intensity necessary to compete at this level. What a treat to be exposed to a truly world-wide competition.
