A Fremont Boy Scout troop became the first in the nation to be stripped of its charter for selling Fourth of July fireworks in violation of a ban imposed by the Boy Scouts of America. Troop 588 Scoutmaster Russ Morrison said he refused to break a contract that had been signed before the restriction was ordered last November. Fireworks sales had been an annual fund-raiser for the 20-member troop.
