Driver Who Hit CHP Car Arrested
The California Highway Patrol said a driver suspected of being drunk plowed into a CHP car that had stopped on the San Diego Freeway near Mulholland Drive early Wednesday to help a stalled Fire Department truck, slightly injuring two firefighters and two CHP officers.
William Hill, 54, of Van Nuys was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence after his Mercedes Benz struck the CHP squad car, pushing it into the Fire Department pickup, said CHP officer Michael Goins. Hill’s car then veered across the roadway and burst into flames, Goins said, but he was not injured.
City firefighters Steven Gutierrez, 23, and Derek Parker, 30, were trapped briefly between their truck and the CHP car. They suffered cuts and bruises and were treated and released at UCLA Medical Center.
CHP officers Mielissa Hoy, 24, and Donnell Holmes, 28, were treated for minor scrapes and released.
