The Athletics West Track Club office in Eugene, Ore., was closed permanently in a surprise move by Nike Inc., the athletic shoe and apparel company that owns the club. The Athletics West administrative functions will be handled by Nike’s corporate headquarters in Beaverton, Ore.

A Nike spokesman said the office was closed as a cost-cutting measure and added that the closure would have no major impact on the Athletics West athletes. An Athletics West runner, Greg Lautenslager, said the closure may reduce the number of athletes who decide to train in Eugene.
